Steak, Sauce & Smiles: A Must-Visit at The Mexican, Duquesa
If you're looking for a fantastic meal in Duquesa Port, then The Mexican on the lower level should be on your list. We stopped by for dinner and left feeling full, happy, and already planning our next visit.
From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed with warm hospitality. A young girl served us (and in hindsight, we really should have asked for her name because she deserves a shoutout!). She was attentive, friendly, and made sure we were well looked after throughout the meal. It’s always refreshing when service feels genuinely caring rather than just ticking a box.
Now, onto the important part—the food!
We ordered the Rib Eye Steak and the BBQ Burger, and honestly, both were excellent choices. The steak? Absolutely nailed it. It was cooked exactly to our liking, full of flavour, and beautifully presented. But what took it to the next level was the pepper sauce. And I’m not exaggerating when I say this was probably the best pepper sauce I’ve ever had—and I’ve had a LOT. Seriously, if there was a global pepper sauce championship, this one would be walking away with the gold medal. It was rich, creamy, perfectly seasoned, and dangerously moreish. If they’d given me a bucket of it, I’d have found a way to finish it.

The chips? Well, chips are a simple thing, but that’s exactly why they need to be done right. These were spot on—golden, crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside. No weird undercooked bits, no oil-drenched disasters—just solid, reliable, well-cooked chips. If chips had a comfort food hierarchy, these would be sitting comfortably near the top, right next to your nan’s Sunday roast potatoes.
Then there was the BBQ Burger, which turned out to be an absolute steal. At less than half the price of the steak, it still packed a punch in flavour. The patty was cooked perfectly—juicy, slightly charred on the outside, and full of smoky BBQ goodness. If you’re dining on a budget but still want quality, this burger is a no-brainer.
The restaurant itself is clean, well-presented, and welcoming. It’s the kind of place where you feel just as comfortable dining alone as you would bringing a date, your family, or a group of friends. Whether you’re after a laid-back meal, a casual bite, or even just an excuse to try that pepper sauce, The Mexican is a great choice.
Would we go back? Absolutely. And next time, we’ll make sure to get the name of the lovely server who made our experience even better!
